Morgan was our first Newfie. It was with great excitement that we set off in 2006, one snowy March weekend, to Wilderland Kennels in Co. Durham to collect this ‘little’ ball of fluff. What started off as 10kg puppy ended up as 85 kg of pure muscle that was over 6ft tall when he stood on his back legs. Yes he was big, yes he was slobbery and yes he did have selective hearing but he was a gentle giant and we loved him dearly and he was thoroughly spoilt.

Morgan loved everybody and couldn’t understand why some people might not like him. When we brought him to town he would sit and bark at people that did not stop to pet him!
We had to teach Morgan to reverse as he didn’t seem to realise how big he was, he seemed to be under the impression that if his head fitted into a space so would the rest of him…
He was a big sad sack at times but very loyal and very protective of his family as well as very insightful as he seemed to be able to sense if some of us were getting sick, before we started to feel it!
We lost Morgan on New Years Day 2012, 5 days before his sixth birthday. A couple of days prior to this we had noticed he seemed very down and not himself when the vets seen him they said he had an atrial fibrillation, his heart was basically vibrating instead of beating, they gave him a lot of tablets and booked him to see a heart specialist but unfortunately our big lad didn’t make it to the appointment, he died in his sleep the day before it.
A lot tears followed, he is sadly missed by us all, humans and dogs alike.
RIP Morgan
